Framingham State University

Framingham State University's education unit strives to prepare its students for one of the worthiest and noblest careers, the teaching profession. To achieve high standards of excellence members of the Education Unit encourage the development of teachers who are knowledgeable, skillful, caring, inclusive, ethical and professional. 

The philosophy, goals and purposes of the Education Unit is consistent with professional standards established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as required for approval of programs to prepare candidates for teacher licensure and for reciprocal licensure through the Interstate Certification Compact.  These professional standards are designed to meet of align to national standards, including the standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, standards of specialized professional associations, and the Five Core Propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Highlights:

Framingham State University offers a traditional, day-time undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Education for full-time, on-campus residents and part-time commuting students.

Through the Continuing Education and Graduate Studies program Framingham State offers a Post-Baccalaureate Teachers License program and a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education in the evenings with courses in a hybrid and online model designed for working adult students.

Resources:

Students may apply for Federal funding through the FAFSA process at both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels and tuition payment plans are also available.  Undergraduate candidates may also be eligible for merit- and need-based grants and scholarships.

Post BaccalaureateTeacher Licensure Program (PBTL)

The Framingham State University Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensing (PBTL) program is designed for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree and are seeking Massachusetts Initial Teacher Licensure.

Graduate Program in Early Childhood Education - Master of Education

The Master of Education Early Childhood Education concentration is a DESE approved program in the area of Early Childhood Education for teachers of students with and without disabilities (PreK - 2) and those looking to move from their Initial License to a Professional License.

Coordinated Major in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education - Bachelor of Science

Undergraduates interested in teaching early childhood (grades PreK-2) or elementary grades (grades 1-6) in public schools select a coordinate major Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.
