Combined Bachelor and Master (4+1) in Early Childhood (B.S./M.Ed.)

The combined bachelors and masters 4+1 early childhood program is designed to send expertly prepared, experienced teachers into public school classrooms. Our program combines intensive, early experiences in our partner schools with rigorous academic expectations.

Obtaining entry to the 4+1 program is a competitive process. To be considered eligible, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, carry a double major in education and the arts and sciences, pass the Communication and Literacy MTEL by the end of the first semester of their second year, obtain a faculty reference, complete an on-demand writing sample, and pass an interview.

We recognize that these are lofty goals we are asking students to meet and so we provide multiple services to help them succeed. EDUatSSU, our student service center, is a resource for students to obtain advice, access tutoring, prepare for MTELs, and interact with their faculty and classmates. Our center is staffed until 6:30 in the evening two to three days a week. Students are expected to focus and work hard to meet the program requirements, but if they put in the necessary work, we will provide the supports they need to meet their goals
